Unit “We read fairy tales”, Lesson 53 (the first lesson).

Aim: By the end of the lesson the children will be able to understand the main idea of the tale and give their opinions.

Skills: Reading/ listening skills.

New Language: chickens, plant the seeds, help, make bread.

To greet the pupils and guests


To repeat the words on the topic “Domestic animals” and tales

Greets the pupils and guests


Shows the letters on the board and asks to guess the words


Asks: “Do you know the tales about domestic animals?”

Greet to each other



Guess the words, tell what domestic animals they like


Remember the tales about domestic animals and name them in English

The pupils may sing the song “Hello, how are you?”

The teacher may write the words on the board or put the pictures on the board.

Use L1 if necessary. The teacher may translate the names of the tales from Russian into English with pupils.

Explains the activity: read the sentence on the strip of paper,

Find the illustration and colour the picture

Listen and read after the teacher



Pupils read the title of the tale: “ The Little Red Hen”

  1. Post-lesson reflection note.

  1. The lesson was organized with the children of the third form. There are 15 pupils in the group, age 9-10 years old. The pupils have got different learning styles: auditory learners – 2 pupils, visual learners – 4, kinesthetic learners – 4, mixed style learners – 5 pupils. We study English by the programme Biboletova “Enjoy English” (form 3). In this lesson it was taken the text on ecology topic from the course “English (the second form, part 2)” Vereshchagina I.N, Bondarenko K.A.,Pritykina T.A.

  2. The main idea of the tale “The Little Red Hen” – the friends must help to each other if they are real friends. But everybody can make a mistake. We must forgive our friends and give a chance to correct their mistakes.

  3. At the pre-stage the children guessed the words, talked about animals and tales, looked at the pictures and predicted the tale, read the new words.

  4. The children coped with while stage task successfully. If they had some problems the teacher and other pupils helped them.

  5. At the post-stage the pupils liked to listen and watch the tale, answer the questions, discuss and give their opinions.

  6. The pupils liked the lesson. The liked to find and colour the illustrations, do funny activities, watch the tale and give their opinions.
