5. English homes. (слайд 7)
T: Very well. Now let’s speak about a traditional English house.(Slide 7)
P: Many English families live in flats, but a lot of people have got houses. There are two floors in the traditional English house; the ground floor and the first floor. The bedrooms and a bathroom are upstairs on the first floor. The sitting room, the dining room, the kitchen and a hall are downstairs on the ground floor.
The sitting room is usually the largest room in the house. There is always a sofa, some chairs and armchairs in it. There is often a carpet on the floor. It makes the room comfortable. English people usually have a fireplace in the sitting room. They often spend evenings in armchairs near the fire. They read books, watch TV, listen to music or sit around and talk. People in England like their homes and often say: “There is no place like home” and “East or West home is best”.
T: Thank you. You were good listeners. How do you understand words “upstairs” and “downstairs”. How do we translate them? (slide 8)
P: Наверху. Внизу.
T: You are absolutely right! Now look at these pictures and say what do you see upstairs and downstairs?
P: Upstairs there are …
P:And downstairs we can see ….
T: And what about these things. Where can you keep them? (slide 9)
P: Yes, there is.
6. “Mary’s letter”. (Slide 10)
T: You know, my dear boys and girl, I need your help. My friend Mary has sent a letter to her granny, but Mary’s granny can understand nothing. Will you help me to interprete it?
(Учитель читает и ученики вставляют вместо картинок слова, для каждой команды по одному слову).
7. Houses in Russia. (Slide 11-12).
T: Excellent! Thank you for your energy and wit. You know about the traditional English house, as I see. Not only English people live in houses. Russian people live in houses. Russian and Ossetian people live in houses, too. I think you sometimes live in the country, don’t you? Let’s speak about a traditional Russian house.
P: The basis of old Russian housing was a wooden log hut (izba). Izba is a heated log hut. Poor log huts were heated with chimneyless stoves. Well-to-do people lived in klet’s, terems and choromys. Choromy is a set of constructions within one yard. It was divided into residential and non-residential. Residential choromy consisted of an inner seni, a cross or prayer room and a bedroom. Non-residential mansions were used for receptions, celebrations, meeting and feasts.
In modern life the traditions changed and people live mostly in blocks of flats or large rich houses.
The traditional modern Russian house is large and light. There are two floors in it. There is a kitchen and a living room on the ground floor. There are three bedrooms on the first floor. The bedrooms are light and cozy. There is a carpet in every room, on the floors. It makes the room comfortable. There is an armchair near the window. People spend a lot of time in it reading books. My favorite place in the Russian house is a fireplace. There is usually a green garden in front of the house with a lot of apple-trees, pear-trees, cherries in it. In summer we often cook barbecue there. Russians call such houses as dachas.
8. Our flats. Guessing game.
T: Thank you very much. We all live in houses. They are all different, aren’t they? But they have the same rooms. What are they?
P: They are a kitchen, a bedroom, a bathroom, a living room and a hall.
T: Now, please, say what these rooms and the furniture are:
We cook in the … (kitchen).
We wash in the … (bathroom).
We sleep in the … (bedroom).
We watch TV in the … (sitting room).
We eat in the …. (dining room).
T: Now your task is to name the things you see in the house:

10. A test. (Slides 18-19)
