Цель: познакомить учащихся с национальными праздниками и фестивалями Великобритании и США, таких как Halloween, New Years Day, St. Patrick’s Day, St. Valentine’s Day, Thanksgiving Day, Easter, Christmas Day, Mother’s Day.
Задачи:
Формировать лексические навыки, навыки аудирования и орфографии.
Совершенствовать навыки монологической речи.
Активизировать творческие способности при подготовке и проведении уроков
Пополнять словарный запас.
Воспитывать интерес учащихся в изучении английского языка, как средства для знакомства с традициями англоязычных стран.
Оборудование: компьютер, интерактивная доска, наглядности, листы с заданиями.
Ход урока
I.Организационный момент.

1. New Year’s Day

New Year’s Day
New Year’s Day celebrates the start of a new year. New Year’s Day celebrate on the first day of January, but the celebration actually begins on December 31st, New Year’s Eve, the night before New Year’s Day. Children like New Year’s Eve, because their parents allow staying up until midnight. Some people stay up all night, shake hands, kiss, hug, sing and shout “Happy New Year!”
After celebrating the New Year’s arrival, many people spend this day quietly visiting friends.

St. Valentine’s Day
St. Valentine’s Day is not a legal or national holiday. Banks and offices do not close, but it is a happy little festival, especially for children and young people. It is celebrated among persons of all ages. A “valentine” may mean a special greeting card or a little present.
The greeting card are often colored, have pictures of hearts.
The day is a time to send little gift to those you love. Flowers and candy are favorite presents which sweethearts send each other.

St. Patrick’s Day is celebrated on March, 17. There are a lot of legends about St. Patrick in Ireland. St. Patrick with a help of three other bishops built more than 50 cathedrals and united the islanders in one faith.
This holiday is very popular. The symbols of his holidays are the shamrock. On March, 17, more than 150,000 people march in St. Patrick’s Day parade, and almost a million people, all wearing green, line the streets to watch.
Irish cuisine is featured in many restaurants, served with traditional Irish coffee. It’s possible to see green bread, pasta and green eggs.

4 Easter

Easter
Easter comes on Sunday between March and April.
Just before Easter the schools and colleges usually close. The students have a week or ten days of spring vacation.
At Easter people buy new clothes to wear on Easter Sunday.
Easter is a church. After church services many people like to take walks down the streets in their new Easter hats and suits.
Another custom is decorating eggs for children. In many parts of the country eggs are hidden in the yards and the children have to find them. Little children believe the Easter rabbit comes and leaves the eggs for them. That’s why Easter candy is made in the form of eggs.
An old English custom is to roll hardboiled eggs down a hill.
Eggs are the symbol of new life.

Mother’s Day
Mother’s Day is traditionally observed on the fourteenth of March. Historically the day used to be known as Mothering Sunday.
There was a tradition to take presents for mother. If people fail to do that they send a “Mothers’ Day card” with congratulations and best wishes.
Very often the husband and children take her breakfast in bed, help her about the house with cooking meals, laying the table, and washing up.

Halloween
Halloween is one of the best holidays for children. They celebrate Halloween on October 31st. Children wear masks and colorful costumes. The most popular costumes are ghosts, witches and skeletons. The children walk door to door in the neighborhood and shout “trick or treat”! Most people give them a treat – candy or fruit. We also decorate our houses and schools in the traditional Halloween colors: orange and black. Popular decorations are witches, ghosts, skeletons, black cats and jack-or-lanterns. Jack-or-lanterns are pumpkins we carve to look like faces.

Thanksgiving Day
Thanksgiving Day is a national holiday on the 4th Thursday in November.
It was first celebrated in 1621, by the Pilgrim Fathers, after their harvest.
Thanksgiving is a family day, for it is customary for all members of the family together at the home of their parents.
The family eats a large traditional dinner which will include turkey and pumpkin pie.
After that many people go to watch football games, some play games at home.

Christmas
Christmas day is celebrated on the twenty-fifth of December. It’s important holiday of the year.
Shops, post offices, bank close for the day. Schools and colleges close between Christmas and New Year’s Day.
Christmas is a family holiday. People stay at home and spend the time with their families. Usually the whole family has a big Christmas dinner in the afternoon or evening. They eat chicken, turkey, duck, goose and pudding, pies for the sweet.
Everyone is buying Christmas presents for friends and relations. People send cards or Christmas greetings to their friends. They wish their friends “Merry Christmas”
Every family decorated Christmas tree. Little children believe that when they are asleep Santa Claus comes to visit them with a big bag of toys.
