Ведущий. Good afternoon, dear guests!
Today we gathered here in this hall to have a party devoted to the most successful and it may be said unforgettable pop group the world has ever known – The Beatles.
(video)
Let’s start from a little bit of history.
The name “The Beatles” appeared much later than the group itself. In spring 1956 15years-old John Lennon organized the group “The Quarrymen” which performed songs in skiffle, country-and-western and rock-n-roll styles. It was absolutely non-professional group: no one of them had a little musical education, no one of them could play any musical instrument well. John was singing in a church choir when he was a child, then with his mother’s help learned to play some simple melodies on a mouth-organ. It was enough to become a leader of the group. First time they didn’t have much fame but the more they played the better it was. And when on 6, July, 1957 Paul McCartney heard the group in the church garden, he liked them. He could play the guitar much better than Lennon and also he knew a number of American hits by heart. It was very important because Lennon couldn’t get American records quickly. In a week McCartney became a singer in the band “The Quarrymen”.
1 рассказчик. In 1958 Paul advised John to invite his school friend George Harrison, a 15 years-old guitarist who played in other group. Soon the group changed the name to “Johnny and the Moon dogs”. More and more their own songs were included in their repertoire but they sang American songs, too. Paul, John and George were the constant members of the band, other participants changed from time to time. In the end of 1958 the group stopped gathering for a while. John and Paul started to perform as a duet “The Nurk” but in the beginning of 1959 the group gathered again with a new participant Stuart Satcliff.
Stuart was John’s classmate in the Liverpool art college. He just received L 65 prize for his picture and on John’s insistence he bought a bass-guitar, although he couldn’t play it. So they got a bass-guitarist but they didn’t still have a drummer.
2 рассказчик. In November the group changed the name again and became “Long John and Silver Beatles”, later it was shortened to “The Silver Beatles” and at last just “The Beatles”. The origin of this word is very interesting: it is a combination of two words “beat” and “beetles”. Most biographers think that this word was found by John who was master of guessing new words. They got acquainted with the owner of the bar “Jacaranda Club” Allan Williams who allowed to make rehearsals there. As a result the bar turned tо the first Liverpool Beat-club. Williams became the first manager of the group also the contract was not signed. In April 1960 the group was invited to make concerts to the North Scotland.
In summer they went to Hamburg, Germany and there they met a new drummer Pete Best and the group became a stable collective for the first time.
Ведущий. Now we’ll listen to one of their early songs “Tell Me Why”.
(Song)
Tell Me Why
Tell me why you cried, and why you lied to me,
Tell me why you cried, and why you lied to me.
Well I gave you ev'rything I had,
But you left me sitting on my own,
Did you have to treat me oh so bad,
All I do is hang my head and moan.
Tell me why you cried, and why you lied to me,
Tell me why you cried, and why you lied to me.
If there's something I have said or done,
Tell me what and I'll apologize,
If you don't really can't go on,
Holding back these tears in my eyes.
Tell me why you cried, and why you lied to me,
Tell me why you cried, and why you lied to me.
Well I beg you on my bended knees,
If you'll only listen to my pleas,
Is there anything I can do,
'cause I really can't stand it, I'm so in love with you.
Tell me why you cried, and why you lied to me.
Ведущий. Now let’s talk about the biography of the Famous Four.
3 рассказчик. John Lennon. John Lennon was born on the 9th of October, 1940 in a family of steward who served on a trade ship. His father was missing. His mother didn’t have enough money to grow the son. Besides she wanted to marry again. So John left with his aunt. John wasn’t a very good pupil. Every day the director of Quarry-bank High School heard about John’s bad behaviour, and he advised John to enter an art college. Later John told about this period of life, “I proved my rightness and insisted on my self-dependence. I consider my childhood to be happy. I never despaired and I was always ready to smile, that helped me every time.”
4 рассказчик. Paul McCartney. James Paul McCartney was born 18 June, 1942 in a private ward, the only of “The Beatles” who was born in hospital. His parents were simple workers. He studied well and after successful finishing the primary school he entered the Liverpool Institute- the most famous high school in the city. His father reminded, “Paul could lessons in front of loudly speaking television, he could enter the University.” But having known about father’s plans Paul began to study bad.
In childhood Paul didn’t pay much interest to music.
One day his uncle gave him a trumpet, on which Paul managed to tune some melodies. Later he like many teenagers got interested in guitar. For the first time it was difficult to learn to play it. But when Paul realized that his left-handness prevented him he changed strings places and everything got better.
Paul and John became close friends. They often went to Paul, made a frying egg and exercised playing the guitar. Paul taught John to play with chords.
5 рассказчик. George Harrison. George Harrison grew up in a large friendly family and didn’t have big problems in his childhood.
He studied at the same primary school where John studied but that time they didn’t know each other. Then he entered the Liverpool Institute where Paul had been already studying for a year.
George liked music and taught himself to play the guitar. One day John heard his playing and offered to join their group.
6 рассказчик. Ringo Starr. He was the eldest of “The Beatles”. He studied at the same school as John. At the age of 13 he got seriously ill and after that he had problems with his health but it didn’t prevent him from music. And when “The Beatles” got to know about him they liked his play and invited to the group.
(Video. Here they are all four.)
Ведущий. “The Beatles” wrote songs in different style on different themes. A great number of their songs is about love. Sometimes they are sweet, sometimes they are sad. Now we present the song “Yesterday”. (Song)
Yesterday
Yesterday,
All my troubles seemed so far away
Now it looks as though they're here to stay
Oh, I believe in yesterday
Suddenly,
I'm not half the man I used to be
There's a shadow hanging over me
Oh, yesterday came suddenly
Why she had to go I don't know,
She wouldn't say
I said something wrong,
Now I long for yesterday
Yesterday,
Love was such an easy game to play
Now I need a place to hide away
Oh, I believe in yesterday
Why she had to go I don't know,
She wouldn't say
I said something wrong,
Now I long for yesterday
Yesterday,
Love was such an easy game to play
Now I need a place to hide away
Oh, I believe in yesterday
7 рассказчик. After returning from Hamburger “The Beatles” needed the place, where they could rehears and such place became Liverpool’s Cavern Club. They were a great success. The road outside the club was always crowded with the girls who worked in nearby shops and offices. They came to see the Beatles during their lunch-break. Now they needed a good manager and he was Brian Epstein, an owner of the local record shop. He managed to change four ordinary working-class lads into international superstars. They found a good record producer, who encouraged them to combine unusual instruments, popular and classical styles in a new and original way.
Their first record “Love Me Do” made them famous all over Britain.
Ведущий. The humour in their songs helped to gain love of millions of fans.
(Song “Ob-la di, ob-la-da”.)
Obladi Oblada
Desmond has a barrow in the market place,
Molly is the singer in a band.
Desmond says to Molly:"Girl, I like your face".
And Molly says this as she takes him by the hand:
Ob-la-di ob-la-da, life goes on bra.
La-la how the life goes on.
Ob-la-di ob-la-da, life goes on bra.
La-la how the life goes on.
Desmond takes a trolley to the jeweler's store,
Buys a twenty carat golden ring,
Takes it back to Molly waiting at the door,
And as he gives it to her she beging to sing.
Ob-la-di ob-la-da, life goes on bra.
La-la how the life goes on.
Ob-la-di ob-la-da, life goes on bra.
La-la how the life goes on.
In a couple of years they have built
A home, sweet home.
With a couple of kids running in the yard
Of Desmond and Molly Jones.
Happy ever after in the market place
Desmond lets the children lend a hand.
Molly stays at home and does her pretty face.
And in the evening she's a singer with the band. Yes!
Ob-la-di ob-la-da, life goes on bra.
La-la how the life goes on.
Ob-la-di ob-la-da, life goes on bra.
La-la how the life goes on.
In a couple of years they still have
A home, sweet home.
With a couple of kids running in the yard
Of Desmond and Molly Jones.
Happy ever after in the the market place
Molly lets the children lend a hand.
Desmond stays at home and does his pretty face.
And in the evening she's a singer with the band. Yes!
Ob-la-di Ob-la-da, life goes on bra.
La-la how the life goes on.
Ob-la-di ob-la-da, life goes on bra.
La-la how the life goes on.
An if you want some fun
Take Ob-la-di bla-da
8 рассказчик. During 1963-1969 “The Beatles” became the leader of the world popular music. Their fame quickly rose in many countries. Their popularity was so great that a new word “beatlomania” appeared. They were always in the news headlines; films, world tours and sometimes scandal. At the concerts fans were crying so loudly that participants of the group didn’t hear music. Gradually they stopped giving concerts. They began to pay more attention to the world’s problems: war, hanger, drugs and bourgeois society. They took part in two films “A Hard Day’s Night” and “Help”. After Brian Epstein’s death they recorded their best albums “Sergent Pepper” and “Let It Be”.
(Video- beatlomania all over the world)
9 рассказчик. Gradually the group started facing different problems: members of the group married, so problems with money appeared, they grew up and disagreements about personalities became a dispute question. The group broke up. Each of them made a solo career. John Lennon met Yoko Ono, a Japan artist, who changed his life greatly and influenced his creative work. He composed more about social problems and his songs “Imagine” and “Give the World a Chance” became the anthem of the antiwar movement in the West, against the USA aggression in Vietnam.
Others also married and recorded solo albums.
Ведущий. Now you will listen the song “Yellow Submarine” which may be called as a hymn to people’s real friendship.
(Song)
Yellow Submarine
In the town where I was born
Lived a man who sailed to sea
And he told us of his life
In the land of submarines
So we sailed up to the sun
Till we found the sea of green
And we lived beneath the waves
In our yellow submarine
We all live in a yellow submarine
Yellow submarine, yellow submarine
We all live in a yellow submarine
Yellow submarine, yellow submarine
And our friends are all aboard
Many more of them live next door
And the band begins to play
We all live in a yellow submarine
Yellow submarine, yellow submarine
We all live in a yellow submarine
Yellow submarine, yellow submarine
As we live a life of ease
Everyone of us has all we need
Sky of blue and sea of green
In our yellow submarine
We all live in a yellow submarine
Yellow submarine, yellow submarine
We all live in a yellow submarine
Yellow submarine, yellow submarine
We all live in a yellow submarine
Yellow submarine, yellow submarine
We all live in a yellow submarine
Yellow submarine, yellow submarine
Ведущий. And their songs about love became more serious.
(Song Hey, Jude)
Hey Jude
Hey Jude, don't make it bad.
Take a sad song and make it better.
Remember to let her into your heart,
Then you can start to make it better.
Hey Jude, don't be afraid.
You were made to go out and get her.
The minute you let her under your skin,
Then you begin to make it better.
And anytime you feel the pain, hey Jude, refrain,
Don't carry the world upon your shoulders.
For well you know that it's a fool who plays it cool
By making his world a little colder.
Hey Jude, don't let me down.
You have found her, now go and get her.
Remember to let her into your heart,
Then you can start to make it better.
So let it out and let it in, hey Jude, begin,
You're waiting for someone to perform with.
And don't you know that it's just you, hey Jude, you'll do,
The movement you need is on your shoulder.
Hey Jude, don't make it bad.
Take a sad song and make it better.
Remember to let her under your skin,
Then you'll begin to make it
Better better better better better better, oh.
Da da da da da da, da da da, hey Jude...
Ведущий. Many fans hoped that group would reunite but it became impossible when J. Lennon was killed in New York in December 1980.
At the end of our party it should be mention that their songs will always be remembered by people because they told that our hopes, our dreams might come true. People should only believe it.
(Song Let It Be).
Let it Be
When I find myself in times of trouble
Mother Mary comes to me
Speaking words of wisdom, let it be.
And in my hour of darkness
She is standing right in front of me
Speaking words of wisdom, let it be.
Let it be, let it be.
Whisper words of wisdom, let it be.
And when the broken hearted people
Living in the world agree,
There will be an answer, let it be.
For though they may be parted there is
Still a chance that they will see
There will be an answer, let it be.
Let it be, let it be.
There will be an answer, let it be.
And when the night is cloudy,
There is still a light that shines on me,
Shine on until tomorrow, let it be.
I wake up to the sound of music
Mother Mary comes to me
Speaking words of wisdom, let it be.
Let it be, let it be.
There will be an answer, let it be.
Let it be, let it be,
Whisper words of wisdom, let it be.
