If the team cannot answer, your competitors have a chance to answer again and get one more point.

– After the War of Independence America became a free country, and its citizens were proudly christened ‘Americans’, and in 1802, US leaders began to talk about ‘the American language’.
– Why are American and British English so different?
– There were settlers from different countries and all of them brought new words and expressions to the language. The USA became a ‘melting pot’’ of cultures.
– What differences are there between AE and BE?
– There are certain differences in pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary and spelling between American and British English.
– Read the text again and write out the words from British and American English that have certain differences in grammar, spelling and vocabulary into the second two columns (after reading).
