на тему “The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland”

Цели:

Образовательная: расширение кругозора учащихся, культурологических знаний и компетенций.

Развивающая: развитие навыков языковой догадки, языковой реакции, памяти, внимания, мышления, инициативы. Развитие навыков чтения, говорения, аудирования.

Воспитательная: повышение уровня эрудиции, привитие интереса к культуре и традициям других народов, развитие умения работать в команде, повышение мотивации к изучению иностранного языка.

Оборудование: мультимедийный проектор, компьютер, аудио-и видео- материалы на дисках CD, колонки, раздаточный материал.

Ходмероприятия:

Начальный этап

Teacher 1: Good morning dear pupils, good morning our guests! We have a special day today! Look at the blackboard, please! Приветствиеучащихся, гостей.

Teacher2: There are some prompts for you! Guess, please, what is the topic of our extracurricular event!

Учитель предлагает детям самим определить тему внеклассного мероприятия.

Teacher 1: Absolutely right! You’ll get to know many interesting facts about this wonderful county! We’ll have also a quiz afterwards and then a competition. Symbols

The flag of Great Britain is red, white and blue. The British people call it “the Union Jack”

The coat of arms of Great Britain has a crown on the shield, because it’s a monarchy. The shield is supported by the English lion and by the Unicorn of Scotland.

The National Anthem of the UK “God Save the Queen”

The symbols of England is the red rose.

The symbols of Scotland is the thistle.

The symbols of Wales are the leek and the daffodil.

The symbols of Northern Ireland is the shamrock.



Famous people

Sir Benjamin HallBig Ben»(1802 – 1867)There are two tall towers at the corners of the building and one of them is the Clock Tower. It was built in 1858 by the English people The bell weights 13 tons. The man in charge of the building was Sir Benjamin Hall. He was very tall, so the workers called him Big Ben. It strikes every hour.

Charles Robert Darwin(1809 – 1882) was an English naturalist and geologist, known for his contributions to evolutionary theory.

Queen Elizabeth I(1533 – 1603)A popular monarch of England (reigned 1558–1603) who brought a period of relative internal stability



Lewis Carroll (1832-1898) An English writer who wrote two well-known children’s stories, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. His real name was Charles Lutwidge Dodgson

Daniel Defoe (1660-1731)An English writer, whose most famous novels are Robinson Crusoe and Moll Flanders

Alan Alexander Milne(1882 - 1956) an English author, best known for his books about the teddy bear Winnie-the- Pooh and for various children's poems. Milne was a noted writer, primarily as a playwright, before the huge success of Pooh overshadowed all his previous work.

William Shakespeare(1564 – 1616) Was an English poet, playwright, and actor, widely regarded as the greatest writer in the English language and the world's pre-eminent dramatist. He is often called England's national poet and the "Bard of Avon". 

CUSTOMS AND TRADITIONS

These customs are really English

  • English people like domestic animals. Every family has a pet: a dog, a cat or a bird.

  • The English are tea-drinkers. They have it many times a day. Some Englishmen have tea for breakfast, tea in lunch time, tea after dinner, tea at tea-time and tea with supper

Holidays

  • Christmas is celebrated all around the world. British people like it too, they have it on the 25th of December. The main character is Santa Claus. Children get a lot of presents and sing Christmas carols.

  • Easter Day is the high point of the year. Easter eggs are important in Britain too. Children believe that Easter Rabbit hides the eggs in the garden. A traditional food is roast lamb. People give each other chocolate eggs that are wrapped in silver paper.

  • Halloween is celebrated on the 31st of October, it’s already well-known in Russia.

  • February 14, the day when people send cards or give red roses or chocolates to the person they love

  • April Fools Day - On this day you have to play the joke before 12 o’clock midday, otherwise the joke is on you

  • «Guy Fawkes» Night is observed on the 5th of November when people in Britain light fireworks and burn a straw guy on a bonfire. This celebration is often associated with collecting money for charity
