Queen Elizabeth II is the Queen of England. She became Queen in February 1952 after her farther died and she was crowned a year later, at Westminster Abbey, London. Queen Elizabeth II is married to Prince Phillip, the Duke of Edinburgh. They were married in 1947, and they have 3 sons and 1 daughter. The Queen’s official home is Buckingham Palace, London. 2012 was an important year for the Queen, as it marked her Diamond Jubilee. She had been Queen for 60 year in 2012, and many special events took place that year to mark the 60th anniversary of her reign. The Queen and Prince Phillip toured England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland in 2012, and visited many parts of the UK. Queen Elizabeth is also Queen of 16 other nations, and other members of the royal family toured the world in 2012 to mark her Diamond Jubilee. Most people in the UK had the day off for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations, as Tuesday 5 June 2012 was declared a bank holiday to mark the event. A bank holiday is a day when banks and many shops and businesses close. Unlike most people, the Queen celebrates two birthdays every year. She was born in April 1926, and she also has an official birthday in the 1st week of June. June 2, 2013 marked the 60th anniversary of Her Majesty The Queen’s coronation, and a special ceremony at Westminster Abbey was held to mark the occasion.
