Honk overhead
And maples turn
A fury red.
Teacher: Good afternoon my dear boys, girls and guests of our lesson. Do you know what date is it today?
Pupils: The 31st of October.
Teacher: You are right. It’s Halloween. And our lesson today is called “Halloween Party”. Today we are going to speak about this holiday, to recite poems, to perform a play about Halloween and to play funny games. According to the legend on this day all spirits come to the Earth. People usually tell each other different horror stories, make lanterns and wear mystic costumes of devils, witches, vampires. Nowadays this holiday is celebrated in Russia too. Do you want to have a Halloween Party?
Pupils: Yes!
Teacher: Well, our first game is called “Haunted house”. Do you know this phrase? There is a legend about a house where a lot of ghosts and other scary things live. This house is called “Haunted house”. Look at the blackboard, please. Here is the Haunted house. Can you find all inhabitants of the house? You have 5 minutes. There are 10 inhabitants here. Try to find them.
Teacher: Well! Let’s check how many words you have found. Good! And now-the next task. I’ll give you ten cards with the descriptions of the inhabitants of the Haunted house. Your task is to match the inhabitant and the description. Let’s work in groups of four.
Descriptions:
It’s small, dwarfish creature specializing in stealing children and substituting fake ones in their place. It’s a very malicious being. (elf)
It’s a disembodied spirit. It’s the sole of a dead person and appearing a visible form or otherwise making its presence known to humans. (ghost)
It’s mischievous, ugly spirit often conjured up by rogues. (goblin)
It’s a spirit who makes its presence by various noises. (poltergeist)
It’s a man or a woman who practices magic and has dealing with the devil. (witch)
It acts as a slave to the person who reanimated it. (zombie)
It’s a man who can become a wolf at midnight. (werewolf)
It’s creature that feeds on blood. (vampire)
It’s a chief spirit of evil and enemy of God, often represented as the ruler of hell. (devil)
It’s creature which reminds a human but doesn’t have skin, only human bones. (skeleton)
Teacher: So, let’s check. I’ll name you an inhabitant and you’ll read me your description.
Teacher: Do you believe in mystic creatures?
Which of these creatures can exist?
Are the most of these mystic creatures positive or negative?
Many people believe in ghosts and other scary things. They make poems about them. Do you know some poems about Halloween?
Jack-o-lantern
Jack-o-lantern, Jack-o-lantern, [pic]
you are such a funny sight
As you sit there by the window,
looking out at the night
You were once a sturdy pumpkin
growing on a vine
Now you are a Jack-o-lantern,
see the light shine.
Five Little Pumpkins
Five little pumpkins sitting on a gate,
The first one said,
"Oh my, it's getting late."
The second one said,
"But we don't care."
The third one said,
"I see witches in the air."
The fourth one said,
"Let's run, and run, and run."
The fifth one said,
"Get ready for some fun."
Then whoosh went the wind,
and out went the lights,
And five little pumpkins rolled out of sight!
Halloween Wishes
Since this is the time for goblins and bats,
Halloween spirits, ghosts and cats,
Weird-happenings and witches brew,
These are the things I wish for you.
May the only spirit you chance to meet,
Be the spirit of love and warm friends sweet.
May the tricks that you are asked to do,
Be a trick to help you gain a friend or two.
Teacher: You have just listened a very interesting poem about five little pumpkins. Do you know what the symbol of Halloween? What material do we need? So, let’s make some lanterns to decorate our classroom.
Well, our party is over. It was interesting and I would like to say thank you to all participants of our lesson, of course, to our guests. Thank you!
