Lesson plan.
Course book: Spotlight 2 by V.Evans , Unit 2, lesson 5b
Aim: by the end of the lesson the children will be able to use new vocabulary on the topic “Food” in phrases in oral activities, read them, translate them and write.
Skills: developing speaking, reading and writing skills.
New language: burgers, apples, bananas, sandwiches.
Revision: structures Do you like? What do you like? What’s your favourite food?
1.Warming-up Phonetic exercisers
Teacher says: Hello, kids! How are you? Let’s remember what Mr Tongue usually does. In the morning he usually opens his window and says: [O:], cleans his carpet [t-t],sofa [d-d], invites guests ringing his bell [n-n].His dog rows at his guests [r-r],but they come in and say [h-h-ai-ai-hai], etc.
Pupils listen to the teacher and repeat the sounds, copy gestures.
2.Presentation of the vocabulary.
1)Demonstration pictures.
2)Pronunciation.
3)Drill.
4)Writing.
The teacher shows pictures of burgers, apples, bananas, chips and sandwiches and pronounces the words. After that the teacher asks students to repeat the words and says: So, you see that the aim of our lesson is to learn new words on the topic “Food” and practice them in well-known phrases.
Then the teacher asks students: Only boys-repeat the word…, only girls , repeat, all together, repeat…
The teacher asks pupils to copy the words 3-4 times into their notebooks.
Pupils look at the pictures,
pronounce the words after the teacher, write the words into their notebooks.
The pictures are in the children’s books and on the blackboard.
3.Practice stage.
1.What is missing?
2.Chain-game.
3.Guessing game.
4.Mini-survey (group- work)
1.The teacher sticks pictures with new words to the blackboard and asks students to name the words. After that the teacher asks students to close their eyes.Then she takes down one picture and asks students to open their eyes. The teacher asks: “What is missing?”
The teacher asks 4-5 students to stand at the blackboard and pass the phrase to each other:”I like …(bananas).And you?”
The teacher asks 1 student to come up to the blackboard and think of his favourite food.Then the teacher asks the rest of the students to ask him questions:”Do you like …?”If the student guesses right, he changes the student at the blackboard.
4.The teacher asks students to work in groups of 4.They are given tables like this:
bananas
chips
apples
Lena
X
Sasha
Pavel
Olga
The students have to ask questions to each other:”What’s your favourite food?” and complete the table with the results. Then the teacher asks:”How many pupils like bananas in your group?”or “Who likes chips in your group?” Pupils look at the pictures,
close and open their eyes, name the missing objects.
Pupils take pictures and pass the phrase: ”I like …(bananas).And you?”
Student 1:” Do you like bananas?”
Student 2:” No,I don’t.”
Student 3: ” Do you like chips?”
Student 2:”Yes,I do.”
The students ask the question to each other:
:”What’s your favourite food?” and complete the table with the results.Then they answer questions of the teacher.
Then the next 4-5 students do the same.
The food in the table can be different.
5.Physical exercisers.
Teacher:”Now we are going to do some exercisers to the rhyme:
1-2-3 let me see: who likes coffee and who likes tea?
1-2-3 now I see: he likes coffee and she likes tea.
Pupils do exercisers and repeat the rhyme after the teacher.
The teacher shows the movements.
6.Reading and singing.
The teacher asks students to read the words of the song Ex. 5 P.55:
Hurry, hurry,
Come and see!
Today there’s a party
Just for me!
With burgers, biscuits
And bananas too!
There’s lot’s to eat
For me and you!
Pizza, chips
And sandwiches!
And candles on a cake
To make a wish!
Then the teacher asks pupils to translate the words, repeat after her together and sing to the music.
Students read the words, translate them, repeat after the teacher, then sing to the music.
The teacher helps students to translate difficult words and corrects pronunciation when they read the lyrics.
7.Writing.
1)Filling missing letters.
2) Making a chainword.
3)Exchanging papers.
8.Reflection.
The teacher asks students to look at the words in their exercise-books(Ex.3 P 36) and fill in missing letters.
Then the teacher asks to make a chain from 3-4 food-words and fill in any letters between them.
Then the teacher asks students to exchange the papers and find the hidden words.
The teacher asks:”What words have you remembered? Was it difficult? What did you like most

-to play games
-to write
-to do the survey
-to speak?”
After that the students are given “I can do-sheets” to assess their activities at the lesson:

The teacher collects this questionnaire. Students fill in missing letters.
Students make a chain from 3-4 food-words and fill in any letters between them.
For example: bananasghchipsioburgerslk
Then students exchange the papers and find the hidden words.
Students answer the teacher’s questions, fill in the suggested table.
The teacher helps students, if they don’t understand the task or make rude mistakes.
The teacher translates questions into mother tongue, if students don’t understand smth.
9.Home task and assessment.
The teacher: Your home task will be (Student-book)P.48 Ex.1-learn the words by heart and prepare for the dictation,P.50 Ex.1-read the dialogue and translate it.

Students write down their home task and say good-bye to the teacher.
The teacher writes the marks into pupils’ record-books after the lesson.
