Lesson Plan 5. Unit 4. It Takes Many Kinds to Make the World.

The theme of the lesson: People’s appearance and character.

The aim: by the end of the lesson the Ss will be able to describe people’s appearance and character in monologues and dialogues.

The Objectives: Ss will have practised to use adjectives.

  1. Warm Up. Comment on the English proverb: Fair face may hide a foul heart

Give the Russian equivalent.

  1. Vocabulary work. In 4 groups do the tasks on the cards.

  1. Reading and matching. Match the short descriptions with the characters.

  1. Describe a person you see on the slide

(Power Point Presentation) In turn. Say not less than 5 adjectives.


  1. Dialogues. Take the card with the situation. Act out a dialogue. Use adjectives to describe the people.

  2. Guess your classmate. In turn describe one of your classmates. Other Ss should guess the person described.

  3. Homework. Choose a picture or a photo. Describe a person’s appearance and character.

S1:Could you help me, Sir?

S2:Yes, what’s the matter?

S1:When I was going by bus to Victoria Station my bag disappeared.

S2:Do you think it was stolen?

S1:I’m sure. I saw a strange man on the bus. I believe he is a thief.

S2:Can you describe him?

S1:He is tall and thin. His face looked wicked and gloomy.

S2:How was he dressed?

S1:He was in coal-black trousers and a mouse-grey jacket.

S2:Is he young or old?

S1:I think, he is about forty.

S2: Well, we’ll do our best to find your bag. Just wait for our call.

S1:Thanks a lot.





Dialogue 2. Your cousin is coming by plane but you are very busy and ask your friend to meet her at the airport. You partner has never seen your cousin.


S1: I say, Ann, are you busy tomorrow?

S2: Not really. Why?

S1: My cousin Liz is coming by plane but I have a lot of work. Could you meet her at the airport?

S2: Sure. But I haven’t met Liz before. How does she look like?

S1: She is pleasant, tall and slim. Her hair is long and coal-black. And her eyes are emerald-green.

S2: What is she going to wear?

S1: She’ll be in sky-blue jeans and lemon-yellow sweater.

S2:OK. I hope, I’ll recognize her.

S1: Thanks. You are always helpful!
