ASSUMPTIONS / RATIONALE:



This is second lesson on alphabet, so they may be already familiar with the spelling. So teacher is going to elicit more than present by using the rhyme associations. To better memorize the letters some games are prepared for the pupils to play.




POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS:

There may be uneven number of pupils

Put them in groups of three or work individually

Some stages or tasks may require more or less time to fulfill

Have a flexi-task to fill time at the end of lesson

  • T greets the pupils, asks them some general questions (how are you? Nice to meet you. What’s your name?)

  • P sing the Hello song

Vocabulary – Introductions pre-teach

To remind of the -related vocabulary

  • Using prepared set of six cards, each with a different simple English name on, T gets each P to say I’m +name. What’s your name. Nice to meet you. Nice to meet you too, while going round. (3-4 min)

  • Pairwork with these cards (2-3 min). Then change the pairs (2-3 min)

Controlled practice

To give the P controlled practice in using the alphabet

  • Activity 1. T asks two P to read the example to the class. Then play the recording while they listen and write.

  • CIC drill (choral- individual – choral).

  • T asks P to compare their answers with a partner and check the answers.

  • Activity 2. Pairwork. Spell your name. T gives P time to ask and answer in pairs their names. Then to spell names from cards.

To give P practice in speaking

  • T has the P repeat the alphabet CIC drill (choral- individual – choral)

  • Pairwork. T asks P to speak to each other, while taking by chance a letter from letter’s box: What is this? – Is this …?
